Every individual has a story worth telling, yet systemic barriers often keep those stories from being heard. Handheld Stories provides communities in economically and socially challenged communities with the equipment and training they need to tell their own stories.

What We Do
What We Do
Since 2009, Handheld Stories has provided media tools and training to communities worldwide allowing them to tell their own stories. After receiving training in media production, students create their own stories based on the prompt, 'If you could tell the world what your life is really like - what would you show them?'

Tell participants what stories to tell. No one knows their situation better than they do. For far too long, many of these communities have had agenda-driven stories told about them, not by them. Handheld Stories is predicated on, and has an unwavering commitment to promote self-representation.
